Avocado Leaf Powder

Most people recognize avocados (avocatier, aguacate, adpukat, avokad, apukado) from cooking—hello, guacamole and avocado toast! Avocado leaves are also used in both dried and fresh form, medicinally and to flavor culinary dishes. When toasted, the leaves offer a nutty hazelnut aroma and a mellow licorice flavor in food. Avocado leaves grow on evergreen trees, which can measure up to 65 feet in height and are native to Central America.

Avocado leaves are an excellent source of fiber and antioxidants such as phenols and flavonoids, which are thought to have anti-inflammatory properties. They also contain zinc, manganese, calcium, sodium, magnesium, iron and potassium.

Avocado leaf powder is generally prepared in a capsule (400 mg per capsule, 2-3 capsules per day), and can also be used in cold or hot drinks. Avocado leaf tea is a smart, simple choice as a solo herb, or it can be prepared in teas or tinctures with Honeybush, Green Tea or Turmeric. Pick up avocado leaf powder now from our online store.

Sarsaparilla Powder

Sarsaparilla (commonly called Honduran sarsaparilla, Jamaican sarsaparilla, saparna, sarsa and khao yen) is a woody, tropical vine. It is often found in Mexico, South America, Jamaica, the Caribbean, Honduras and the West Indies. The name might bring to mind the Wild West and historical beverages similar to root beer. Fun fact: The once-common drink named sarsaparilla did not actually contain any ingredients from the plant. Instead, it had flavoring from the sassafras plant.

Sarsaparilla is believed to be an antioxidant, which means that it could lower the body’s levels of free radicals. Some studies also have shown that it may increase urine output, which can be beneficial to the kidneys and help prevent or relieve fluid retention.

Today, the root of the sarsaparilla plant is available as pills, tinctures, powdered roots and creams. Sarsaparilla is often prepared in beverages, teas, tinctures, tonics, syrups and capsules. Sarsaparilla is often combined with Dandelion, Burdock and Yellow Dock roots, among other herbs and spices. Sarsaparilla powder is now available in our online store.
